NBC NEWS IS #1 ACROSS THE BOARD AMONG BROADCAST FOR “DECISION 2022” ELECTION NIGHT COVERAGE

Nearly 7 Million Viewers Watch NBCU News Group’s Primetime Midterm Coverage Across NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC and Noticias Telemundo

NOVEMBER 9, 2022– NBC News is the #1 broadcast network across the board for “Decision 2022” primetime midterm election coverage. And for the first time ever for a midterm or presidential election, MSNBC beat CNN in total viewers in primetime, according to Nielsen Fast Nationals.

On DigitalNBCU News Group Digital marked its most viewed day since early 2021. The NBCU News Group also achieved record midterms viewership across live streams, with 33 million streams across live and VOD content, according to Adobe Analytics & Partner Dashboards. On streaming, NBC News NOW had its best primetime audience in 2022.

Additionally, the NBCU News Group – NBC NewsMSNBC and CNBC – along with Noticias Telemundo, averaged 6.6 million total viewers during primetime coverage, according to Nielsen.

NBC News averaged 3.1 million viewers during primetime coverage (8-11 p.m. ET), led by NBC Nightly News anchor Lester HoltTODAY co-anchor and chief legal correspondent Savannah GuthrieMeet the Press moderator and NBC News political director Chuck Todd and NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent and chief Washington correspondent Andrea Mitchell. The network also averaged 1.04 million A25-54 viewers and 799,000 A18-49 viewers. 

Among total viewers, NBC News beat ABC by +66,000 viewers (+2%) and CBS by +592,000 viewers (24%). In the A25-54 demo, NBC topped ABC by +246,000 viewers (+31%), marking its 7th straight election win over the network in the key news demo. Additionally, NBC topped CBS in the demo by +378,000 viewers (+57%).

MSNBC’s primetime “Decision 2022” election coverage, led by Rachel MaddowNicolle Wallace and Joy Reid (8pm-11pm) averaged 3.1 million total viewers, topping CNN’s 2.5 million for the first time ever on a midterm or presidential election night. MSNBC also delivered 747,000 A25-54 viewers. MSNBC beat CNN during every hour of the day yesterday (6am-3am) among total viewers.

NBC News NOW averaged its biggest audience in 2022 with last night’s primetime election coverage. Anchors Tom Llamas and Hallie Jackson began streaming coverage at 6 p.m. ET, before leading into a simulcast of the network’s primetime coverage at 8 p.m. ET. NBC News NOW viewership was up over +150% versus the average. 

NBCU News Group Digital had its most viewed day since early 2021, up +99% over the average. It was also the strongest page view day for NBCNews.com since early 2021, with NBC News’ immersive election results pages drawing over 16 million page views, up 18x compared to 2018 levels. 

MSNBC Digital marked its strongest live blog on record, up +71%versus the previous record. MSNBC Digital streams across platforms were up 7x versus the 2018 midterms. MSNBC.com drove more live streams on site and hours watched than any other day for 2022.

On emerging platforms, NBC News and MSNBC led on YouTube versus the competition for Election Day. During live primetime coverage on Election Night, NBC News and MSNBC’s average concurrents were more than the total of ABC News, CBS News and Fox News’ combined concurrents.
