“MEET THE PRESS” DELIVERS BIGGEST AUDIENCE IN THREE MONTHS

Widest Win Over “This Week” and Closest Gap with “Face the Nation” Half-Hour Since March

Posts Double-Digit Gains in Both Total Viewers & Demo in Q2 Year-Over-Year

Best Q2 Demo Delivery in 3 Years; Best in Q2 Total Viewers in 2 Years

Narrows Total Viewer Gap by 71% in Q2 with ABC’s “This Week”

JULY 2, 2015 – NBC’s “Meet the Press with Chuck Todd” (MTP) delivered record-high second quarter numbers, averaging its biggest total viewer audience in two years (2.602 million) and best A25-54 viewers in three years (808,000). MTP also narrowed the total viewer gap with ABC’s “This Week” by 71% year-to-year this quarter.

The June 28th edition of MTP delivered the NBC program’s largest audience since March 22 of this year and posted strong momentum week-to-week and year-over-year, according to Nielsen Media Research Live+Same Day data.

Sunday’s MTP beat ABC’s “This Week” by +143,000 total viewers, the widest gap in three months (since 3/29/15). The ABC broadcast was rated for just 33 minutes.

Compared to CBS’s “Face the Nation,” which continues to claim ratings based on a 30-minute average, “Meet the Press” posted the biggest demo win since January 2013 (+225,000 viewers) and cut the total viewer gap to just 90,000, the narrowest in three months (since 3/22/15).  Compared to the full FTN hour, MTP led by +512,000 total viewers and +364,000 viewers A25-54.

MTP posted double-digit gains week-over-week in both total viewers (+16%) and the A25-54 news demo (+11%) and continues to deliver year-over-year audience gains, both +13% in total viewers and +3% viewers A25-54.  Compared to 2Q15-to-date levels, Sunday’s MTP was +12% ahead in total viewers, and up +5% in the demo.

Continuing its dominance as #1 in the influential Washington, D.C. market, MTP outperformed the competition combined in the A25-54 demo, winning all ten Sundays it has aired this quarter in total viewers.

MTP drew an additional 1.058 million total viewers and 442,000 A25-54 demo viewers with rebroadcasts on the network and MSNBC.

 

Q215 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Year over year, MTP saw a +10% gain in 2ndquarter among P2+ and was +17% up in A25-54 viewers.
  • MTP had the best 2Q demo delivery in 3 years (best in 2 years for P2+).
  • Compared to ABC’s “This Week,” the total viewer gap narrowed by 71% year-to-year.
  • Duration: MTP aired 48 minutes longer than “This Week” with 442 total minutes in 2Q15.
  • On a weekly basis, “This Week” averages about 36 minutes each episode, while MTP averages about 44 minutes.
