“NBC NIGHTLY NEWS” IS #1 ACROSS THE BOARD FOR 1st QUARTER OF 2015

In Total Viewers, Nightly Marks 30th Consecutive Quarter at #1 and 16th Straight Year Winning Q1

NBC Broadcast Wins Week of March 23 Among Total Viewers

MARCH 31, 2015 — “NBC Nightly News” was America’s most-watched evening newscast in total viewers and all key demos for the first quarter of 2015, according to Nielsen Media Research data.

The NBC broadcast was also #1 among total viewers for the week of March 23-27, 2015. Nightly’s total audience increased for the second straight week, hitting its best level since the week of 3/2/2015.  Week-to-week, Nightly posted across the board gains in total viewers (+2%, or +191,000), A18-49 viewers (+2%, or +26,000) and A25-54 viewers (+6%, or +109,000).

NOTE: Year-over-year Q1 comparisons include the Sochi Olympics in 2014.  For the week, CBS Evening News is based on a 3-day average (Mon-Wed) due to the NCAA basketball tournament airing in western markets.

Season-to-date, Nightly is the #1 evening news broadcast in total viewers and all key demographics.  Nightly has been #1 in total viewers for 288 consecutive weeks and 335 of the last 336 weeks.

All ratings below are based on Live+Same Day data from Nielsen Media Research.

1st Quarter 2015 Highlights:

  • Nightly averaged 9.506 million viewers in 1Q’15, leading ABC by +4% (+409,000) and CBS by +23% (+1.751 million)
  • Among A25-54 viewers, Nightly finished #1 during the quarter with 2.333 million, leading ABC by +3% (+71,000) and CBS by +27% (+498,000)
  • Nightly averaged 1.660 million A18-49 viewers, outperforming ABC by +9% (+142,000) and CBS by +37% (+448,000)
  • Nightly has been #1 in total viewers for 30 consecutive quarters and for 16 straight years during a 1st quarter period.
  • Nightly has been #1 among A25-54 viewers for 7 consecutive years during a 1st quarter period.
  • Nightly has been #1 among A18-49 viewers for 30 consecutive quarters and for 19 straight years during a 1Q period.
  • Nightly has been #1 among M25-54 for 75 consecutive quarters.
  • Nightly has been #1 among W18-49 for 28 consecutive quarters.

Weekly Highlights:

  • Nightly averaged 8.709 million total viewers, leading ABC World News Tonight by +112,000 and CBS Evening News by +1.970 million.
  • Nightly averaged 2.044 million A25-54 viewers, topping CBS by +566,000.
  • Nightly delivered a 1.7 A25-54 rating, +5 tenths more than CBS.

Season-to-Date Highlights:

  • Nightly is averaging 9.302 million total viewers this season, leading ABC by +6% (+520,000) and CBS by +26% (+1.918 million).
  • Nightly’s 1.601 million A18-49 viewers leads ABC by +9% (+130,000) and CBS by +35% (+416,000) this season.
  • Nightly is averaging 2.220 million A25-54 viewers season-to-date, topping ABC by +1% (+29,000) and CBS by +26% (+453,000).
