Nightly News More than Tripled its Lead over ABC in A18-49 from Same Week Last Year

NEW YORK (May 23, 2017) – “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” ranked #1 in the demo for the week of May 15, averaging 1.7 million A25-54 viewers, leading “ABC World News Tonight” by +170,000 viewers (+11%) and “CBS Evening News” by +359,000 viewers (+26%). Nightly News has ranked #1 in A25-54 for 49 consecutive weeks and 98 of the 100 weeks since Lester Holt officially became anchor. Week to week, Nightly News added +61,000 (+4%) A25-54 viewers and improved its demo advantage over ABC by +13% (+170,000 vs. +150,000 prior week). Compared to the same week last year, the NBC News broadcast improved its A25-54 leads over both ABC (+17%) and CBS (+3%).

For the week, Nightly News averaged 1.25 million A18-49 viewers, topping ABC by +185,000 viewers (+17%) and CBS by +334,000 viewers (+37%). The NBC News broadcast has ranked #1 in A25-54 and A18-49 for 94 of the last 95 weeks. Nightly News posted the biggest A18-49 viewer gain vs. the prior week (+72,000 viewers, +6%) and had it best advantages over the competition in three weeks. Year over year, Nightly News more than tripled its A18-49 lead over ABC (+185,000 vs. +56,000 last year) and improved over CBS by +30% (+334,000 vs. +257,000 last year).

Nightly News averaged 7.4 million total viewers for the week of May 15, leading CBS Evening News by +1.3 million (+21%). Nightly News holds its largest demo lead over ABC in four seasons and biggest advantage over CBS in three seasons. Compared to last season, Nightly News’ demo lead over ABC is up +11%, while its advantage over CBS is up +12%.
