In Pa., Clinton Holds Double-Digit Advantage over Trump

Polls Conducted Prior to Friday Audio Release of Trump’s Lewd Comments About Women

OCT. 9, 2016 – Democratic presidential nominee former Sec. Hillary Clinton leads Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in both battleground states of Florida and Pennsylvania, according to new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls.

In Florida, Clinton holds 45 percent support to Trump’s 42 percent – within the poll’s margin of error. Five percent support Libertarian former Gov. Gary Johnson, and the Green Party’s Jill Stein gets three percent. The Florida. poll was conducted Oct. 3-5, before Hurricane Matthew impacted the state.

In Pennsylvania, Clinton has a double-digit advantage over Trump: 49 percent to 37 percent, while Johnson holds six percent and Stein holds four percent. When narrowed to a two-way contest, Clinton’s advantage remains 12 points: 51 percent to 39 percent.

Both polls were conducted before Friday’s 2005 audio release of Trump’s lewd comments about women.

Both battleground states feature Senate contests with incumbent Republican senators up for reelection. In Florida, Sen. Marco Rubio leads Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy by two points among likely voters, 48 percent to 46 percent. In Pennsylvania, Sen. Pat Toomey trails Democratic challenger Katie McGinty by four points. McGinty gets 48 percent among likely voters, while Toomey gets 44 percent.
