Nightly News Up +77% Over ABC in the Demo versus Same Week Last Season

Nightly News Ranks #1 among A25-54 and A18-49 for 58 of Last 59 Weeks

NEW YORK (September 13, 2016) – “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” ranked #1 across the board for the week of September 5, averaging 7.898 million total viewers, leading “ABC World News Tonight” by +20,000 and “CBS Evening News” by +1.654 million (+27%). The NBC News broadcast has won across the board for nine consecutive weeks, while topping among total viewers for 11 of the past 13 weeks.

Nightly News continues its dominance in the demo, averaging 2 million A25-54 viewers, leading ABC by +265,000 (+16%) and CBS by +612,000 (+46%). Among A18-49, Nightly News averaged 1.44 million viewers, topping ABC by +219,000 (+18%) and CBS by +550,000 (+61%). The NBC News broadcast has ranked #1 in A25-54 and A18-49 for 58 of the last 59 weeks. Versus the same week last season, Nightly News improved its A25-54 lead over ABC by 77% (+265,000 last week vs. +150,000 last year) and its A18-49 advantage by 21% (+219,000 vs. +181,000 a year ago).

NBC Nightly News was based on a three-day average for the week of September 5, due to the Labor Day holiday (Monday) and the NFL season-opening game (Thursday). ABC and CBS were rated for four days last week (Tuesday through Friday).

Season to date, Nightly News is the #1 evening news program in total viewers, A25-54 and A18-49 viewers.

  • Nightly News averaged 7.898 million total viewers, leading ABC by +20,000 and CBS by +1.654 million (+27%).
  • Nightly News has won across the board for nine consecutive weeks and won 11 of the last 13 weeks among total viewers.
  • Nightly News averaged 1.944 million A25-54 viewers, outperforming ABC by +265,000 (+16%) and CBS by +612,000 (+46%).
  • Nightly News has ranked #1 in A25-54 and A18-49 for 58 of the past 59 weeks.
  • Versus the same week last season, Nightly News improved its A25-54 lead over ABC by 77% (+265,000 last week vs. +150,000 last year) and its A18-49 advantage by 21% (+219,000 vs. +181,000 a year ago).
  • Nightly News averaged 1.444 million A18-49 viewers, topping ABC by +219,000 (+18%) and CBS by +550,000 (+61%).

  • Season to date, Nightly News is the #1 evening news program in total viewers, A25-54 viewers, and A18-49 viewers.
  • Nightly News averages 8.6 million total viewers, +280,000 (+3%) ahead of ABC and +1.57 million (+22%) more than CBS.
  • Nightly News averages 2.1 million A25-54 viewers, leading ABC by +245,000 (+13%) and CBS by +484,000 (+30%).
  • Nightly News has added the most A25-54 viewers versus last season (+38,000, +2%).
  • Nightly News has improved its A25-54 lead over ABC by over 745% (+245,000 lead this season vs. +29,000 this time last year).
  • Nightly News averages 1.5 million A18-49 viewers, outperforming ABC by +209,000 (+16%) and CBS by +416,000 (+38%).
  • Nightly News has more than doubled its A18-49 advantage over ABC versus last season (109%, vs. a +100,000 lead last season).
