The NBC Broadcast Tops ABC by +45% in the Demo before the Rio Opening Ceremony on Friday, August 5

Nightly News is the #1 Non-Sports Program across all of TV On Sunday, August 7 with 12 Million Total Viewers, Anchored by Lester Holt Live from Rio

NEW YORK (August 9, 2016) – “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” ranked #1 across the board for the week of August 1 (Monday through Friday), averaging 8 million total viewers, outperforming “ABC World News Tonight” by +258,000 (+3%) and “CBS Evening News” by +1.721 million (+28%). The NBC broadcast has topped total viewers for 6 of the last 8 weeks and ranked #1 among A25-54 and A18-49 for 53 of the last 54 weeks.

On Friday, the night of the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Nightly News topped ABC by +1.1 million total viewers (16%) and CBS by +2.6 million viewers (46%). In the demo, Nightly News outperformed ABC by +688,000 (46%) and CBS by +876,000 (68%) on Friday.

On Sunday, August 7, Nightly News was the #1 non-sports program of the day among total viewers and the A25-54 demo across all of television. The show averaged 12 million total viewers and 4.1 million A25-54 viewers.

NBC Nightly News was in the top three of non-sports programs across all of television for the week of August 1, averaging 8 million viewers, behind “America’s Got Talent” (11.6 million total viewers) and ABC’s “The Bachelorette (8.6 million total viewers). In the demo, Nightly News averaged 2 million A25-54 viewers for the week, outperforming ABC World News Tonight by +278,000 (+17%) and CBS Evening News by +507,000 (+35%). Nightly News improved its demo lead over ABC by +65% from the week prior. The NBC broadcast averaged 1.4 million A18-49 viewers, topping ABC by +181,000 (+15%) and CBS by +407,000 (+41%). Nightly News has ranked #1 in A25-54 and A18-49 for 61 of the past 65 weeks.

Holt started anchoring “NBC Nightly News” live from Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, August 4. He will anchor the broadcast from Rio every night through August 19.
