Nightly Tops ABC by Over Half a Million Viewers for Second Week in a Row

NBC Broadcast Posts 6th Straight Across-the-Board Win; 11th Consecutive Win Among Total Viewers

SEPTEMBER 9, 2015 – “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” was #1 in total viewers and all demos for the week of August 31 – September 4, marking its sixth straight across-the-board victory and 11th consecutive win among total viewers.

The NBC broadcast has averaged over 8 million viewers for three weeks in a row, topping ABC by over 500,000 viewers for two straight weeks and CBS by over 1.5 million for four straight weeks.

August 2015 marked Nightly’s second straight monthly win in the A25-54 demo average and its biggest monthly demo win since March 2014.  For 3Q’15-to-date, Nightly is currently pacing for its biggest demo advantages vs. ABC and CBS since 1Q’2014.

Nightly has been #1 among total viewers all 11 weeks since Holt was named anchor and #1 across the board for 6 straight weeks and 10 out of the 11 weeks. Nightly has now won among total viewers for 16 of the last 19 weeks, and 304 of the last 311 weeks.

Season-to-date, Nightly is #1 in total viewers, A25-54, and A18-49.

Weekly Highlights:            

  • Nightly averaged 8.254 million total viewers, +548,000 (+7%) ahead of ABC World News Tonight and +1.725 million (+26%) more than CBS Evening News.
  • Nightly averaged 2.009 million A25-54 viewers, leading ABC by +196,000 (+11%) and CBS by +586,000 (+41%).
  • Nightly delivered a 1.7 A25-54 rating, +2 tenths more than ABC and +5 tenths more than CBS.
  • Nightly averaged 1.463 million A18-49 viewers, +252,000 (+21%) higher than ABC and +477,000 (+48%) more than CBS.
  • Nightly’s A18-49 gap over ABC increased for the 3rd straight week, hitting its widest A18-49 margin since the week of 2/2/2015.
  • Nightly delivered a 1.2 A18-49 rating, +2 tenths more than ABC and +4 tenths more than CBS.

Season-to-Date Highlights:

  • Nightly is averaging 8.655 million total viewers, outperforming ABC by +364,000 (+4%) and CBS by +24% (1.672 million).
  • Nightly is averaging 2.064 million A25-54 viewers this season, leading ABC by +27,000 (+1%) and CBS by +444,000 (+27%).
  • Nightly is averaging 1.480 million A18-49 viewers this season, leading ABC by +99,000 (+7%) and CBS by +375,000 (+34%).
