May 19, 2022 – Dateline is the #1 most-watched newsmagazine and true-crime franchise across all of TV for the 2021-2022 broadcast primetime season with over 115.1 million total viewers with one week remaining in the season, according to Nielsen Media Research. Additionally, over 89 billion minutes of Dateline were consumed across TV and digital platforms, which includes NBC, cable and broadcast syndication and Peacock’s Dateline 24/7 channel. This marked an increase of +39% compared to last season.

This season, Dateline’s chart-topping showcast delivered its strongest broadcast primetime season ever with more than 220 million downloads, up +35% in year-over-year measurements. The showcast, which features broadcasts as podcast episodes, also received 1.5 million downloads on average per episode.

Additionally, during this time period, Dateline celebrated its 30th anniversary and debuted the #1 podcast The Thing About Helen & Olga, which received more than 6 million downloads since its November release. Dateline’s 2019 podcast, The Thing About Pam, also returned to #1 following the NBC eponymous series starring two-time Oscar-winning actress Renée Zellweger. The scripted series, inspired by Dateline’s podcast, was a collaboration between Blumhouse Television, NBC News Studios and Zellweger’s Big Picture Co. The series is also NBC’s #1 new show of the season in the 18-49 demo and the pilot episode currently ranks as NBC’s top digital launch in the network’s history.

Dateline is anchored by Lester Holt and features correspondents Andrea Canning, Josh Mankiewicz, Keith Morrison and Dennis Murphy. New episodes of NBC’s longest running primetime series air Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. David Corvo is the senior executive producer and Liz Cole is the executive producer.
