Friday, April 9 – Marking 100 days since the siege on the U.S. Capitol, NBC News will devote network-wide coverage all next week on the roots of extremism in America. Beginning Sunday, April 11, exclusive and original reporting will air across TODAY, NBC Nightly News, Meet the Press, MSNBC, NBC News NOW and NBCNews.com.

As part of the week-long American Extremism series, Lester Holt will sit down with Acting Chief of the U.S. Capitol Police Yogananda Pittman in her first interview since the attack on Jan. 6. Airing Friday, April 16 during a special live edition of NBC Nightly News from Washington, D.C., the exclusive interview will cover the ongoing security issues surrounding the Capitol, as well as the emotions Capitol police officers are experiencing as they bury another officer this week. 

Other programming highlights throughout the week include:

  • On Sunday, April 11 at 10 p.m. ET on MSNBC, NBC News Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel hosts “On Assignment with Richard Engel: Our House.” In the hour-long joint investigation with Bellingcat, Engel and his team investigate key moments from the Jan. 6 siege, including looking at those behind the planning. 

  • Meet the Press Reports’ premiere episode of the second season, available on demand on Peacock, explores how violent domestic extremism has infected the country’s politics and whether the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol could foreshadow a potentially violent future.The 30-minute episode dives into how populism, grievance politics and nationalism play into extremism and what law enforcement, national security experts and elected officials can do to combat domestic terrorism in the future. Plus, NBC News correspondent and NBC News NOW anchor, Morgan Radford joins to discuss her reporting on the rise of extremist groups and sits down with Chester Doles, a former KKK leader now running for a county commissioner seat in Georgia and speaks to experts who say his rebranding is a sign of what’s to come.

  • NBC News Senior Washington Correspondent and MSNBC Anchor Hallie Jackson speaks with witnesses of the Capitol siege to examine the impact on their mental health, including a House employee and Rep. Dan Kildee. The Michigan congressman joins Jackson alongside his therapist to share for the first time why he decided to seek professional help for post-traumatic stress following Jan. 6. Jackson also explores whether Congress is doing enough to make sure mental health resources are available. Her exclusive reports will air across MSNBC, TODAY and Weekend Nightly.
  • NBC News Senior Reporter Brandy Zadrozny will investigate the state of the far right, including groups that have disbanded and some that have been chased further to the darker corners of the internet. 
  • In a personal essay for TODAY.com, NBC News Capitol Hill Correspondent Kasie Hunt, will discuss her experience reporting on the attacks, as well as her memories of U.S. Capitol Police Officer William “Billy” Evans, who was killed on April 2. NBC News Capitol Hill Reporter Frank Thorp will also share his photo essay from Jan. 6, on NBCNews.com and NBC News NOW. 
  • NBC News Justice Correspondent Pete Williams reports on the inception and origins of the attack on the Capitol and the ongoing investigation into the true origins of the siege. 
  • NBC News White House Correspondent Carol Lee reports on secret Facebook groups where far right ideologies and conspiracies are espoused. 

On Friday, April 16, The Beat with Ari MelberThe ReidOut and All In with Chris Hayes will examine January 6th and the lasting impact on lawmakers, law enforcement and democracy.

  • At 6 p.m. ET,  The Beat host Ari Melber will examine the legal angle of the insurrection, where legal proceedings stand against those who stormed the Capitol on January 6th and developments in the charges against those involved in the killing of Capitol Police Officer Sicknick. 
  • At 7 p.m. ET, The ReidOut host Joy Reid will dig deep into the lasting impact on lawmakers who survived that day and how they feel about the current state of security at the Capitol.
  • At 8 p.m. ET,  All In host Chris Hayes will take a closer look at the members of Congress who helped stoke the insurrection and continue to spread misinformation about the 2020 Presidential Election.
