Nightly is #1 Among Viewers A25-54 for 9th Time in 12 Weeks

When Brian Williams Anchored from Havana, NBC Broadcast Topped ABC by over 600k Viewers

JANUARY 27, 2015 – “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” was America’s #1 newscast in total viewers and all key demos for the week of January 19-23, 2014, according to Nielsen Media Research data. The NBC broadcast has now been #1 among demo viewers A25-54 for 7 of the past 8 weeks and 9 of the past 12 weeks.  Compared to the previous week, Nightly widened its demo viewer lead over ABC by +22%.

Nightly delivered the largest evening news audience of the week on Wednesday as Brian Williams anchored from Havana, Cuba.  The NBC broadcast averaged 10.008 million viewers, topping ABC by +619,000 and CBS by +2.197 million.

Nightly is the #1 evening news program this season among total viewers, A18-49 viewers, and A25-54 viewers.  Compared to its season-to-date average, Nightly posted across-the-board increases in total viewers (+2%, or +193,000), A18-49 viewers (+3%, or +51,000), and A25-54 viewers (+7%, or +143,000).  Nightly has increased its total viewer audience by +1% (+75,000) versus the same season-to-date period last year and is posting its best start to a season in 9 years (since the 2005-06 season).

NOTE: ABC retitled on Monday and is based on a 4-day average, but NBC and CBS are based on 5-day averages.  On Tuesday, coverage of the State of the Union address resulted in abnormal start times and preemptions of Nightly in the Pacific time zone.

Weekly Highlights:

  • Nightly averaged 9.444 million total viewers, topping ABC World News Tonight by +3% (+319,000) and CBS Evening News by +22% (+1.712 million).
  • Nightly has been #1 in total viewers for 279 consecutive weeks and in 326 of the last 327 weeks.
  • Nightly averaged 2.311 million A25-54 viewers, +5% (+120,000) ahead of ABC and +20% (+392,000) more than CBS.
  • Nightly delivered a 1.9 A25-54 rating, +1 tenth more than ABC and +3 tenths more than CBS.
  • Nightly averaged 1.636 million A18-49 viewers, leading ABC by +10% (+152,000) and CBS by +32% (+401,000).
  • Nightly delivered a 1.3 A18-49 rating, +1 tenth more than ABC and +3 tenths ahead of CBS.
