Beats GMA in All-Important Demo for 257 of past 259 Weeks

#1 Morning Show in A25-54 Again at this Point in the Season for Six Straight Years

NEW YORK – Dec. 15, 2020 – For the 68th straight week, NBC News’ TODAY won the key demo. TODAY beat ABC’s “Good Morning America” (GMA) in A25-54 for 257 of the past 259 weeks. Holding on to its top spot, TODAY has been the number-one morning show in the all-important demo at this point of the season for six years in-a-row. Plus, TODAY’s coveted demo lead has grown versus GMA, compared to last season. 

When it comes to total viewers, last week TODAY increased its viewership lead over CBS “This Morning” by more than 30 percent versus the prior week.

TODAY averaged 1.001 million A25-54 viewers, leading GMA by +68,000 (+7%) and CBS This Morning by +405,000 (+68%)

  • TODAY has now ranked #1 in A25-54 for 68 consecutive weeks (includes one tie) and 257 of the last 259 weeks

TODAY averaged 714,000 A18-49 viewers, topping GMA by +90,000 (+15%) and CBS by +292,000 (+69%)

  • TODAY has ranked #1 in A18-49 for 64 consecutive weeks and 126 of the last 128 weeks

TODAY averaged 3.328 million total viewers, beating CBS This Morning by +668,000 (+25%)

  • TODAY’s total viewer lead over CBS improved by 31% week-over-week

2020-21 SEASON-TO-DATE (9/21/2020-12/6/2020)

TODAY has ranked #1 in both A25-54 and A18-49 at this point of the season for 6 consecutive years

TODAY’s A25-54 advantage over GMA (+105,000) is up 9% versus the same point last season

TODAY’s A18-49 lead over GMA (+135,000) is 26% higher than prior year and its biggest advantage in three seasons

Ratings now reflect the addition of Out of Home (OOH) viewership that Nielsen Media Research began measuring on Aug. 31 across only 44 markets.
