READY FOR NOVEMBER: NBC NEWS DIGITAL RELEASES INTERACTIVE POLLING, EARLY VOTING AND VOTER TURNOUT TOOLS

NBC News launches its first national polling average

State-by-state and national polls and early voting data available in new, digital interactives on NBCNews.com

Users can create their own election scenarios based on demographic groups’ turnout and vote choice with new Swing The Election interactive

September 23, 2020 – With the election just six weeks away and the Covid-19 pandemic changing how America will vote in 2020, NBC News has released new, comprehensive, data-driven tools for the upcoming general election, solidifying NBC News as the go-to destination for the latest polling and data on the early vote, leading up to Nov. 3 and beyond.

For the first time, NBC News has released The NBC News National Polling Average, a new national polling average, aggregating ten reputable* polls daily, all curated by the Decision Desk and NBC News Political Unit. The project is interactive, easy to read, and includes historical averages and all the latest polls included in the average.

In a data collaboration with TargetSmart, NBC News is independently analyzing and aggregating early voting both nationally and in available states, sharing how many Americans have requested a ballot, received it and voted early (both in-person and by mail). Updated daily, The Early Vote interactive also includes additional demographic information about these voters, including partisanship, gender and age and allows the user to compare 2020’s numbers to historical 2016 data.

NBC News has also launched Swing The Election, an interactive tool created in collaboration with The Cook Political Report, that lets users see how changes in turnout and support among different demographic groups will ‘swing’ the Electoral College.

NBC News is also showcasing the latest polling in states that will be pivotal to the outcome of the election, as curated by the NBC News’ Decision Desk and Political Unit. These battleground state polls — Pennsylvania, Florida, Wisconsin and more — offer context alongside the NBC News National Polling Average.

Plan Your Vote, a comprehensive, state-by-state guide, which was launched just last month, offers visitors a comprehensive place to view all the information needed for planning their vote for the 2020 elections, while also taking into account each state’s coronavirus pandemic restrictions. Since launching, more than one million visitors have used the tool to learn everything they need to know about casting a ballot in the 2020 presidential election. The tool was built and is powered by the NBC News Data Graphics team, with data and information supplied by the NBC News Decision Desk and politics team, including the most up-to-date, real time information on laws as they get passed around the country and as decisions are made in pertinent court cases.

Users can also submit their anonymous thoughts about the presidential candidates and state of the country with NBC News’ Election Confessions and can design and map their own road to the presidency or see the latest scenarios from Chuck Todd and Steve Kornacki with the Road to 270 interactive.

For all the latest information on the 2020 election, including these tools, visit NBCNews.com.

*Methodology: The NBC National Polling Average is based on an unweighted average of the 10 most recent publicly released public opinion polls that NBC News deems reliable. An organization’s polls are deemed reliable based on methodology (excluding interactive voice response phone polls and opt-in online polls), past performance and transparency.
