Tops ABC’s 20/20 Across the Board By Double Digits, Marks Fifth Consecutive Season Win in A18-49

PLUS: Dateline’s 29th Season Kicks off September 25th at 10pm ET

September 15, 2020 –Dateline NBC is the #1 Friday newsmagazine for the 2019-2020 broadcast season, topping ABC’s 20/20 by double-digits across the board in all key measurements, including total viewers, the key news demo A25-54 and the key primetime demo A18-49.

With one week remaining in the broadcast season, Dateline currently averages 4.294 million total viewers, topping 20/20 by +491,000 (+13%) and 1.269 million A25-54 viewers, beating 20/20 by +111,000 (+10%).

Among A18-49, Dateline currently averages 937,000 viewers, +110,000 (+13%) higher than 20/20, marking the fifth consecutive season win in the key primetime demo. Versus the prior broadcast season, Dateline’s A18-49 advantage over 20/20 has increased from +8,000 to +110,000.

This past season, Dateline debuted Motive for Murder, a new podcast from correspondent Josh Mankiewicz that hit #1 on Apple’s Podcast Charts. The series followed Dateline podcasts The Thing about Pam, 13 Alibis and Dateline “showcasts,” which are broadcasts available as podcast episodes. The newsmagazine was also #1 for the 2019-2020 primetime season.

Dateline kicks off its 29th season on Friday, September 25 at 10pm ET.
