The NBC Broadcast Posts Widest Total Viewer Advantage Over ABC Since August; Biggest Lead Over CBS In 5 Weeks

On Day of Paris Terror Attacks, Nightly Tops ABC By 712,000 Total Viewers And 427,000 A25-54 Viewers

NOVEMBER 17, 2015- “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” is #1 across the board for the week of November 9-13, delivering its widest A25-54 advantage over ABC since the Sochi Olympics (the week of 2/17/14). The NBC broadcast also averaged its best total viewer lead over ABC since the week of 8/31/2015 and over CBS in five weeks (the week of 10/5/2015).

On Friday, in the wake of the Paris terror attacks, Nightly out-delivered ABC by 712,000 total viewers and 292,000 viewers A25-54.

On Monday, Nightly posted its biggest single-day delivery in eight months (since March 5, 2015) with 9.903 million total viewers and 2.477 million A25-54 viewers.

Week-to week, Nightly posted the largest gains among the evening newscasts in total viewers (+3%, or +283,000), A25-54 viewers (+10%, or +222,000) and A18-49 viewers (+12%, or +177,000). Compared to last week, Nightly gaps over ABC more than doubled by 107% in total viewers, 168% among A25-54 viewers, and 105% among A18-49 viewers.

Compared to its 4Q’15-to-date levels, Nightly also delivered the biggest growth among its competition in total viewers (11%, or +914,000), A25-54 viewers (+17%, or +344,000), and A18-49 viewers (+20%, or +281,000). Nightly widened its lead over ABC in total viewers (+151%) in A25-54 viewers (+154%) and A18-49 viewers (115%).

Nightly has now won among total viewers for 21 consecutive weeks,  26 of the last 29 weeks and 314 of the last 321 weeks.

Weekly Highlights:         

  • Nightly averaged 9.299 million total viewers, outperforming ABC by +477,000 (+5%) and CBS by +1.517 million (+20%).
  • Nightly’s total audience rose for the fourth straight week, hitting it highest delivery since the week of 3/2/2015.
  • Nightly averaged 2.338 million A25-54 viewers, +297,000 (+15%) higher than ABC and +528,000 (+29%) more than CBS.
  • Nightly topped ABC by at least 200,000 A25-54 viewers for the second time in the last four weeks.
  • Nightly has been #1 among A25-54 for 16 straight weeks and 20 of the last 21 weeks.
  • Nightly averaged 1.710 million A18-49 viewers, leading ABC by +346,000 (+25%) and CBS by +532,000 (+45%).
  • Nightly has led ABC by at least 100,000 A18-49 viewers for 13 consecutive weeks.
  • Nightly ranked #1 among A18-49 viewers for the 16th consecutive week and the 20th in the last 21 weeks, and 24 of the last 26 weeks.

Season-to-Date Highlights:

  • Nightly is averaging 8.505 million total viewers, leading ABC by +227,000 (+3% )and CBS by +1.401 million (+20%).
  • Nightly is averaging 2.039 million A25-54 viewers, leading ABC by +140,000 (+7%) and CBS by +442,000 (+28%).
  • Nightly is averaging 1.466 million A18-49 viewers, leading ABC by +186,000 (+15% )and CBS by
  • +393,000 (+37%).
  • Nightly has seen a 392% turnaround in the A25-54 gap versus last year when it trailed ABC by -48,000.
  • Compared to last year, Nightly has more than doubled its A18-49 advantage over ABC (+121%, from a +84,000 advantage last year).
